We are the people of Dacorum - a growing Borough of 150,000+ people put at risk by the closure of our local Hospital and significant cutbacks to services in Dacorum. These changes form part of a scheme using a risky experimental model that predates Darzi's GP-led healthcare 'Polyclinics'.

We feel that West Herts Hospital Trust headed up by Chief Executive Mr Jan Filochowski and the PCT are not acting in the interest of people and lives. We believe the focus on reducing spend on Healthcare services and target-led performance monitoring only creates an environment where lives take second place.

The politcal postcode lottery has a significant impact on the provision of local services. Labour areas benefit from investments in Hospitals and a higher spend per head, whilst other areas suffer lower spends and Hospital closures. Some local Labour areas see spends of over £1100 per head, whilst Hemel Hempstead sees spends under £950 per head.

Aside from WHHTs lies regarding closures, we strongly believe that 'official' consultations are engineered and flawed, especially when the outcome has already been decided. WHHT employed the PR damage limitation services of Spin Doctor 'Professor' John Underwood (Clear / Freshwater) - a known Labour Spin Doctor - to justify closures and downplay an 82% vote in the retaining of all services in Hemel Hempstead General Hospital. Whilst public money is being spent on spin events to deceive people into believing Hospital services continue to exist at the Hemel Hempstead Hospital, the people are given a false view of how serious the hosptial closures really are.

Closures continue, despite protest to Government, a report by Academy of Medical Royal Colleges, and Hospital Trust bosses' realisation that the replacement hospital at watford may never be built as private finance dries up. Sites across Hemel Hempstead are being considered as the need to sell valuable Hospital land increases as private finance is now very difficult to obtain.

Although official statistics say we endure lower waiting times, our current investigation has uncovered horrific stories of suffering and new risks to life since the closure of services at Hemel Hempstead General Hospital - including our much needed A&E facility. A&E was replaced in 2009 by the delayed and failing 'Urgent Care Center' - a facility that has generated a worrying number of complaints, with many cases simply being sent back to GPs or the overcrowded Watford A&E site, despite spin to the contrary.

Major Television, National Press and Local Media regularly cover our hosptial campaign.

Hemel Hempstead needs a full, acute Hospital, to serve the choice of local people especially after the Hemel Hempstead Buncefield Oil Depot Disaster, which could have seen thousands of people dead or in need of immediate local healthcare. We are now collecting a dossier of evidence from the public, recieving votes of No Confidence in the West Herts Hospital Trust and are preparing for another mass National Demonstration. We believe decisions regarding local healthcare should be made democratically by elected officials, not people chosen for their ability to follow political instruction.

Lives of Vulnerable people in Dacorum are being put at risk by WHHdTs obsession with closing high quality Acute services at Hemel Hempstead Hospital and investing in the condemned Watford General Hospital.
